FAQs About Dental Implants At The Dental Implant Centre

Are dental implants painful?

With proper pain management, most implant surgeries are pain-free. The surgeons at The Dental Implant Centre will discuss the best suited option with patients during the assessment stage. Nervous patients will have the option of oral, IV sedation and general anaesthesia to help them cope with their anxiety. Patients are advised to consume antibiotics and painkillers as prescribed by their surgeons, so that they are kept comfortable post-treatment.

Are dental implants safe?

Dental implant procedures have been performed for the last 50 years. It is considered a safe tooth replacement method for people with missing or failing teeth. Patients who are in good health can expect success with this procedure when it is performed by a suitably qualified professional.

Can dental implants really be done in one day?

It is possible to place an implant into an extraction socket immediately after tooth removal. Much retrospective and prospective research has been carried out and it is accepted as a safe clinical procedure. A temporary crown can be fabricated at the time of extraction for immediate attachment onto the implant to provide a finished look for functional and aesthetic purposes.

Are dental implants suitable for me?

Dental implants are suitable if:

  • You have one or more missing teeth.
  • Your jawbone has reached its full growth potential.
  • You have adequate bone to secure the implant.
  • You are able to undergo bone graft treatment.
What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer the following benefits:

  • They look and feel natural - just like the patient’s own teeth - as they are implanted directly into the jawbone.
  • They help to improve patients’ speech since patients no longer worry about their teeth slipping.
  • They are more comfortable to wear than removable dentures. Patients also can eat more comfortably since dental implants don’t slip and cause pain.
  • They do not require alterations to surrounding teeth (which happens for a tooth-supported bridge). Natural healthy teeth are therefore kept intact.
  • They function like natural teeth; individual implants are easily cleaned.
  • They are designed to last for as long as they are properly maintained.
What precautions should I take before the surgery?

Prior to the procedure, strict protocols are followed to ensure patients’ health and safety:

  • Patients have to eat as per normal; they should not miss breakfast. Drinks should be non-alcoholic.
  • Patients already on medication should consume them as usual. Antibiotics will be prescribed so patients can consume them about an hour before the procedure. Patients with allergies must make these known to the dental team and surgeon during the initial consultation.
How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are durable; with proper care and maintenance, they can last for many years.

It is also important to consider the manufacturers of your dental implants. If they are by reputable brands, it will be easier to source for replacement parts.

When can I resume my normal activities?

This depends on the general constitution of the patient and how the procedure went. Patients are generally advised to take 2 to 3 days off from exercise or other activities that would cause discomfort to the implant site.

What is the success rate for dental implants?

The success of dental implant treatment varies with factors such as location of implants, patient’s general health, and post-surgery care. Nonetheless, dental implants offer a success rate of 98%, and can last a lifetime with proper care.

How much do dental implants cost?

These are some factors that affect the cost of your dental implant procedure:

  • Brand of dental implants
  • Research and reliability of chosen brand
  • Material chosen for the implant and crown
  • Adjunct procedures, if any, required to ensure the success of the treatment

Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents may use their Medisave to partially finance the surgical portion of their treatment. Our experienced front desk team will be able to help advise further processing for claims. Patients will need to check with their insurance advisors on the coverage for dental implants on their insurance policies.
